A dog in the sun

One day I  sat on a bench in a park.

The sun was shining and shared its warmth generously making it very easy to relax and doze off.

Of course that would be considered by many inappropriate and maybe I would be even taken for a homeless and picked on by passing law enforcement units.

The battle in my mind was won by the good manners I was taught but as I looked around I noticed a dog stretched out on the grass freely enjoying what I had denied myself seconds ago.

I could not help but envy that dog. The freedom it had to enjoy what was there to enjoy. Not bound by social norms and rules.

I could not help but wonder more about the differences in our lives.

Dogs do not need to work and earn their living. A lucky pet dog enjoys Utopian life and is completely freed from the norms of a dog society. Maybe such a life would fit in our description of a Kingdom of Heaven.

I had to stop my mind from wondering as the thoughts filling me up were disturbing more and more the delicate balance of my "superior identity" as a human.

Becoming aware of the deeper meanings of life made me wonder how our civilized life could benefit from a more balanced world view that includes more of our humanity and less of our culture and differences.

I stood up and walked away happy and encouraged that my observations were a sign that not everything is lost... there must be many people looking at life and wondering how can it be better for us all.

Searching for a deeper meaning to life and sharing the findings.
