By the candle light

One evening as darkness had hidden the rest of reality I was looking at the soft light of a tea candle.

My mind wondered about significance of the moment.

A hard substance was slowly melting under the heat of fire while gently feeding the flame...

A thin thread was slowly burning out of existence...

It suddenly downed on me. I was witnessing a moment of self sacrifice for something higher.

A piece of thread on its own and a lump of candle wax do not seem like anything special.

Yet come the darkness of night and they have proven capable of bringing joy and warmth to countless generations of human beings exposed to the elements, fearful of the evil done in the shadow of dark.

Countless books were written, songs sang, paintings painted and work done under the light of a candle.

What an amazing fact in the history of the human race.

Suddenly it seems fair that song be sang and poems written about the flame of the candle.

How many thoughtful minds were inspired by the gentle and loving sacrifice of the thread and the wax radiating light while slowly dying.

Leaving the buzz of life aside and looking around truly opens a deeper meaning to the purpose of life,

No wonder candles are used in temples of worship, prayer and meditation as well as for creating romantic atmosphere.

Love and self sacrifice always seem to lead to the creation of something higher, deeper, better... especially if the sacrifice is understood and accepted.
